Introduction

There are a dozen great nature reserves found in and around Bristol. Visiting them all in one go is practically impossible. We have listed the best ones to go to, along with the reasons why.

Avon New Cut

This is a tidal waterway that can be found on the River Avon. Its best attribute is the rich ecosystems that can be seen living in the water.

Badock’s Wood

Badock’s has something for everyone. There is plenty of woodland to hike through. Meadows stretch out far and contain interesting bugs and plants. There are also streams to look out for.

Callington Road

Callington is ideal for people who want to go out on a long walk. It is a predominately green area full of wildflowers and small animals. Visitors can also see the dew pond, a highlight of the reserve.

Eastwood Farm

This farm is the best place to go if you want some peace and quiet. It is a tranquil riverside reserve that contains a number of ponds teaming with wildlife.

Lawrence Weston Moor

The fields found on this moor are made up of both wet and dry land. This gives it a diverse amount of creatures that have made a habitat in Lawrence Weston. During the warmer seasons there is an abundance of wildflowers that spread out far and wide.

Lamplighter’s Marsh

This is one of the more unusual reserves of our list. The habitats are a mixture of natural design and man-made influence. The wildlife found here is not commonly seen in other areas of Bristol. This makes Lamplighter’s Marsh a great place for fans of biology.

Narroways Millennium Green

While in Bristol visitors will want to find some good photo opportunities. This nature reserve in particular can give people some amazing views of the city. They can see all across Bristol which is clearly visible in the distance. Meanwhile they can explore the grassy ridges that have been split by old railway cuttings.

Royate Hill Local Nature Reserve

This reserve is also very picturesque. Some of it extends onto the top of a historical railway viaduct. The best thing about Royate Hill is its meadows, which are perfect for hiking in. So too are the thick woodlands. It is easy to spend an entire day at this nature reserve without realising it. Time goes by very quickly here.
